LittleLocomotives

3 1/2" Rebuilt West Country

LittleLocomotives

A 3 1/2" gauge partly constructed 'Bulleid' Rebuilt West Country Class.

Parts comprise of: complete copper boiler, silver soldered, was originally hydraulically tested to 160PSI for a working pressure of 80PSI (certificate not present). The smoke box has been partly fabricated as have the frames, driving wheels are nicely machined from solid steel, middle crank axle, axles, axle boxes, smoke box cradle and front buffers. Front bogie with wheels, axles and axle boxes, pony truck and wheels are partially fabricated, tender framed with wheels, axles, axle boxes and rear buffers. There is also a stainless steel grate, 12 machined parts for motion and reversing gear - unfinished, 21 other various machined parts.

The work to date appears to have been a collaberation between works drawings (available I'm told from the National Railway Museum) and Keith Wilsons 5" Rebuilt Merchant Navy design 'Ariel' (serialised in Model Engineer from October 1984). Construction so far is to a good standard with a good amount of detail. I confess I'm very tempted to keep this myself but I could use the space right now. This is a good start, on a loco rarely modelled in this gauge, at a price thats probably not much more than the cost of getting the boiler built.
