A 5" gauge North British Railways, Reid Atlantic class, number 868 'Aberdonian'.
Here we have a lovely antique 5" gauge Atlantic. This loco hasnt run in a very long time. Originally built in July 1926 it was rebuilt in 1931 by J.G.Stephenson.
This loco was stripped for a boiler test as the boiler is old, rivetted and caulked. An independent boiler tester assessed the boiler as repairable. As the boiler copper is thin by modern standards, and unless you are an expert repairing comsol joints, then it would probably be best to replace the boiler.
The loco is essentially complete.
The loco has been dis-assembled to the rolling chassis and was placed back together for the photos to give you a better idea of what the completed loco looks like.
There is evidence of the originally NBR brown livery underneath the various shades of green.
This is a good size loco at a very reasonable price and would make a worthwhile restoration.
